Supreme Court to Hear Kolkata Doctor’s Rape and Murder Case on August 20
On Sunday, the Supreme Court independently took notice of the rape and murder of a doctor at RG Kar Hospital in Kolkata and scheduled a hearing for August 20, according to a media report.
A bench consisting of Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud, Justice J.B. Pardiwala, and Justice Manoj Misra will address the case, which has ignited widespread public outrage, the media house said.
The body of a postgraduate trainee doctor was discovered at the hospital on August 9. Following this, the Kolkata Police arrested a civic volunteer the next day in connection with the case.
On August 13, the Calcutta High Court, dissatisfied with the Kolkata Police’s investigation, directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take over the case, after the victim’s parents raised concerns about potential evidence tampering.
